Tucked away in the basement of the Segal Centre (5170 Cote-Ste Catherine) is a hidden gem, the ArtLounge, a retro bar evoking the style of cabaret lounges from the 50s and the 60s. Since earlier this month, the space is now home to a series of monthly comedy events, produced by local funny man Keith Waterfield and Kasia Leskiewicz.

"We have this cool, classy lounge area at the Segal and we haven't been using it. It reminded me of the type of places where Lenny Bruce performed, because of its jazz vibe, which is great for comedy," says Waterfield, who also works at the Segal as front of house manager.

The new programming includes Broadway Cafe, an open mic night for musical theatre lovers (Dec. 4), an lmprov night (Nov. 5) and a Comedy Night, with the first one kicking off tonight, Thursday, October 27th.

Hosted by Waterfield, The Laugh Pack: For People Who Dig Comedy features local comics Blanca Yates and Chris Betts, with Torontonian David Hetl, whose style Waterfield describes as “dark Woody Allen," headlining the show. It starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $5. For more info about ArtLounge events, visit segalcentre.org.
