Richard III

Groundbreaking new company Metachroma Theatre presents a fresh take on a classic tale

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Joel Miller
A Metachroma Theatre Production

In the Segal Studio from September 19th – 30th , 2012

Featuring one of world literature's most insidious and manipulative characters, Richard III is a powerful piece, as horrifying as it is fascinating. William Shakespeare's classic and timeless tragedy journeys through the psyche of one man who will stop at nothing to serve his ambition. Defined by appearance and demonized by society, Richard is ever the outsider. In a whirlwind of horrible deeds and unspeakable acts, Richard fights to claim his position as monarch at all costs.

Metachroma Theatre addresses the under-representation of visible minority actors in Canadian Theatre, challenging current perceptions by telling stories with a diverse cast in order to normalize the presence of these artists on stage.

Starring: Quincy Armorer, Glenda Braganza, Tamara Brown, Lucinda Davis, Julie Tamiko Manning, Mike Payette, Jamie Robinson and Warona Setshwaelo.

Coup de Coeur

This week: Repercussion Theatre and the St-Lawrence Shakespeare Festival

"In the next week or so I plan to catch two shows: Repercussion Theatre kicks it up a notch this summer by bringing in Canada's National Arts Centre English Theatre Company Alum Alex McCooeye to head the cast of The Taming of the Shrew, co-directed by Repercussion Artistic Director Paul Hopkins and SideMart Artistic Director Andrew Shaver.  Word is that they have co-created one of the best nights of Shakespeare in the park this city has seen in years.  Running until August 5th at parks across the city.www.repercussiontheatre.com

Quincy Armorer, artistic director of Black Theatre Workshop, stars as the title character in the St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival's production of Othello.  The concept of the production looks interesting which "will tie in with the bicentennial celebration of the War of 1812."  The Festival is in Prescott, between here and Ottawa.  For more information: www.stlawrenceshakespeare.caPaul Flicker
