BEN CHAREST TRIO
AS PART OF THE 2014 MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE FESTIVAL
AT THE SEGAL CENTRE!
Sunday, March 2nd at 8:00 p.m. |
Jazz musician and composer Benoît Charest is known for his brilliant film scores, notably the cult classic Les Triplettes de Belleville… but this gifted guitarist also puts on a mean jazz show.
"Pure genius." – Brendan Kelly, The Gazette/CBC
The Ben Charest Trio, comprised of Ben Charest on guitar, Dan Thouin on Hammond organ and Kevin Warren on drums performs in trio formation as part of the Power Jazz Series and the 2014 edition of Festival Montréal en lumière.
The trio will perform a mixture of compositions and selected music from the jazz repertoire. The music, both fiery and lyrical, leaves much space to the great improvisational skills of these three musicians. The warm tones emanating from the jazz guitar and Hammond organ have created one of the classic combinations of jazz from the 50s / 60s that has a culinary equivalency to snails and garlic butter or ice cream and warm apple pie.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Charest's Triplettes de Belleville score earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Song (2004)
• He has composed the soundtrack for over twenty films including Mars & Avril, and Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique.
