BACKSTAGE PASS

In just a few months Michel Tremblay's Belles-soeurs will take to our stage in its world premiere English musical incarnation. Behind the scenes, this is a passion project three years in the making for us and our dear friend and collaborator, producer Allan Sandler. Excited? So are we.

Creating and adapting a new musical is not without its challenges; yet, the creative process, community spirit and transformative experience of theatre was never more palpable than in the recent workshop held in our rehearsal space earlier this month. In the presence of the entire creative team including director Rene Richard Cyr, Daniel Belanger, writer and composers Neil Bartram and Brian Hill and Chris Barillaro, and supported by designers, the Segal staff and Michel Tremblay himself (pictured centre), the courageous cast showed us the heart and soul of this production.

This photo was taken at the end of an intense four days of work, during which we were all immersed in the spirit of these iconic women – their stories, their struggles and their joy still touch us today. To think that the next step involves lights, costumes, set, choreography, musicians and you, the audience, is thrilling and a gift we are proud to share first with you.
