TOP 3 QUESTIONS ASKED ABOUT THE GRADUATE
One of the joys I have as Artistic Director is the absorbing conversations with the audience at the intermission and after the show. Each audience member connects to theatre in different ways and we love receiving your feedback. So for this edition of Backstage Pass I'd thought I'd take a stab at answering the most recurring questions asked about The Graduate:
Why isn't the ending the same as the movie?
When a play is adapted from an original work (in this case a novel and then the film) the playwright, Terry Johnson, was able to create something new with a theatre audience in mind. Without too many spoilers, the play's final scene combines elements of the film together with hope for a new beginning for our lead characters.
Where can I get the music from this production?
Matthew Barber and Justin Rutledge have created an exquisite soundtrack to the play inspired by the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel. While they have yet to record the music from this production, their current albums are available for sale in the lobby, or for digital download on ITunes (Matthew Barber / Justin Rutledge).
Was it difficult for Mrs. Robinson to be naked on stage in front of an audience?
Being an actor requires one to bare all emotionally and physically. Brigitte Robinson, one of the country's finest actors, is no stranger to a variety of challenges and demands. She wanted her portrayal of Mrs. Robinson to be as authentic as possible and that meant being at ease with what was required of the script.
