WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS

North American Premiere!

The wait is almost over! After opening to much critical and audience acclaim in South Africa this summer, Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee's provocative tale of political intrigue comes to life on stage at the Segal Centre.

From January 27th to February 17th, 2013.

Set in a small frontier town under the jurisdiction of a political entity known only as "the Empire", the story is told from the perspective of the town's magistrate, who has experienced peace and tranquility until a threat from "the barbarians" throws his world into turmoil. A gripping political thriller that will make you ask: just who are the barbarians?

Under the direction of multiple-award winning director Alexandre Marine, and featuring a stellar lineup of South Africa's best young talent, Waiting for the Barbarians is a unique chance to see groundbreaking world theatre at its best, at the Segal Theatre.

"A powerful piece," "A visual feast, "A phenomenal cast" – The Sunday Independent, South Africa

An international co-production with Mopo Cultural Trust and Baxter Theatre Centre of Cape Town, South Africa.

From the book by J.M. Coetzee
Adapted and Directed by Alexandre Marine
Produced by Maurice Podbrey

Presented by KPMG, with the support of the Cole Foundation
