Get to know: Maurice Podbrey, Producer
Veteran producer Maurice Podbrey makes a triumphant return to the Montreal theatre scene with Waiting for the Barbarians. Member of the Order of Canada, Mr. Podbrey is one of the pioneers of English theatre in Montreal, co-founding Centaur Theatre in 1969 where he remained as Artistic Director until 1997. He returned to his native South Africa 14 years ago to form Mopo Cultural Trust, a company dedicated to the development of new theatrical talent. Maurice divides his time happily between Cape Town and Montreal, which he continues to call home.
Did you know?
Maurice Podbrey's daughter, Alison Darcy, is one of Montreal's rising directors. She is the co-founder of Scapegoat Carnivale Theatre, the Segal Centre's 2012-13 Studio Resident Company. They return to the Studio this May with a new adaptation of FAUST

International music sensation launches the third edition of the Women of the World series!
The Segal's hit music series is back for another season of inspiring performances by some of Quebec's leading female artists.
Thursday, January 24th at 8:00 p.m in the Studio
With a musical career spanning over fifteen years and more than a hundred concerts that have taken her all over the world, the multi-talented singer-songwriter and cellist Jorane will take to the Segal Studio stage solo after the release of her newest album L'instant aimé. An unforgettable evening with an artist whose career continues to soar, this vibrant and intimate concert will also feature songs from her hit 2011 recording Une sorcière comme les autres.

An Evening with Maurice Podbrey… in Yiddish!
Tuesday, January 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Studio
Before you attend Waiting for the Barbarians, come take part in an intimate evening with this Montreal theatre legend in the Studio. The veteran actor will read the Yiddish classic Bontshe Shvayg (Bontshe the Silent) by Yiddish poet I.L. Peretz, also leading a post-reading discussion.
Many may be surprised to learn that Mr. Podbrey speaks and reads Yiddish. Bontshe Shvayg is one of his favourite stories.
The evening will begin with a lecture on Peretz with Anna Fishman Gonshor of McGill University's Jewish Studies Department.

The Ancestry Project

Bassist Zack Lober pays tribute to his grandfather, Montreal musician Hyman Herman with The Ancestry Project, a musical and visual performance looking back at his grandfather's musical career. This project explores his family's musical and personal history and incorporate it into a complete creative work, The Ancestry Project.

"Compagnia Finzi Pasca's new creation La Verità premieres this month at la Place des Arts before touring the world. Daniele Finzi Pasca, author, director, lighting designer and choreographer, is renowned for stunning productions. The work, a combination of theatre, circus, music and dance, will feature a scrim painted by Salvador Dali. Plays at la Place des Arts' Théâtre Maisonneuve from January 17 to February 7.
