Get to know: Ranee Lee
A multi-talented singer, actress and writer, Ranee Lee, CM, is now celebrating over 40 years as one of Montreal's most popular jazz vocalists, performers, songwriters and proud author of children's books. Renowned for her ability to channel the grand dames of jazz, she gave an award-winning performance on stage and screen as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill (also directed by Roger Peace), and paid homage to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald in the musical and double album Dark Divas. Her unparalleled musical career includes seven Juno nominations of twelve critically acclaimed recordings, in collaboration with such notables as Oliver Jones and John Clayton. Her 2010 album Ranee Lives Upstairs was awarded the coveted Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the year.

& The Celtic Windwarp

Montreal's favourite celtic flutist wraps up our 12-13 Indie Series.
Wednesday, February 27th at 8:00 p.m.

A traditional melodic folk song moves seamlessly into a rowdy, pub-style tune as Dave Gossage and the Celtic Mindwarp lead the audience on a rip-roaring adventure of spirited sound. Upbeat and energetic, this is a toe-tapping, hand-clapping show that is sure to please. Influenced by music styles from across the globe, from jazz to celtic, the band was awarded an Opus prize for best live jazz/world concert of 2009 and their CD was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award the same year.

After paying tribute to Gaston Miron and the great poets of the French language, Chloé Sainte-Marie lends her voice to the songs of Philippe McKenzie, founder of the contemporary Folk-Innu movement of the 1970s. With her show Nitshisseniten E tshissenitamin « Je sais que tu sais », from her album of the same name, she offers a touching performance where the music embodies the beauty and loss of Aboriginal people, dispossessed of their own territory and culture.

24-HOUR PASSOVER SEDER PROJECT

An interactive cultural experience to remember!
March 13th to 14th, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Celebrate the upcoming Jewish holidays with members of the community and Montreal personalities as they conduct a 24-Hour Passover Seder at the Segal Centre, a unique envisioning of the annual Passover ritual feast. Among distinguished participants are Dr. Joe Schwarcz, and Rabbi Poupko, from the Beth Israel Beth Aaron Synagogue.

The event will be held in a performance art, living sculpture format, where spectators will be able to attend at any point during the performance and participate in an authentic Seder experience. Evening highlights include: the building of a papier-maché pyramid and a horseradish eating competition, and a flash mob to the Dayenu Passover Song.

PARTICIPATION IS FREE!

In collaboration with Federation CJA, Gen J, and the Jewish Community Foundation, from an original idea by Alyssa Yufe.

" I was fortunate last week to see our friends at Soulpepper Theatre in Toronto putting on one of my favourite plays, Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.  Joe Ziegler does a fine job leading the talented company.  Soulpepper's founding members, such as Nancy Palk, Ted Dykstra and Oliver Dennis are excellent – as always.  It is wonderful to see newcomers to the company like Gregory Prest and Leah Doz get featured roles playing Hamlet and Ophelia.  If you find yourself in Hogtown between now and March 6, I highly encourage you to head down to the Distillery District for a night of great theatre.  There is always something cool happening at the Young Centre.  www.soulpepper.ca." – Paul Flicker
