Get to know: director, Alexandre Marine

Recipient of the Distinguished Artist of Russia award, Marine has directed over seventy productions in Moscow, Montreal, New York and Tokyo. A founding member of the Tabakov Theatre in Russia and founding Artistic Director of Théâtre Deuxième Réalité in Montréal, Marine makes a long-awaited return to the Segal Centre after directing Dangerous Liaisons (2008) and the Prix de la Critique award-winning Amadeus (2007). Taking on the adaptation of the text, the directing and the lighting, Marine's all-encompassing vision, infused with a vivid sense of imagery and movement lifts Coetzee's text into a captivating piece of theatre.

World renowned pianist headlines upcoming Power Jazz concert

Sunday, February 17th at 8:00 p.m. in the Studio

Award-winning jazz pianist and composer, Lorraine Desmarais, CM, has performed in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa in solo and trio formations and with her own big band and symphony orchestra. She has recorded eleven albums, three of which were awarded "Félix'' (ADISQ) prizes, and has appeared on stage alongside such musicians as Chick Corea, Oliver Jones, Joanne Brackeen, Tiger Okoshi, Paquito D'Rivera and Diva Big Band, Guido Basso.

She will interpret songs from her latest album Couleurs de Lune and other original songs from her illustrious career, accompanied by musicians Frédéric Alarie (bass) and Camil Bélisle on drums.

This Valentine's Day, why not consider a pair of tickets to a Segal music show in the Studio – one of Montreal's most intimate concert venues.

Blending celtic-style fiddling with a mastery of classic violin, Newfoundland born Kate Bevan-Maker has made a name for herself as one of Canada's most promising violinists.

Kate's career in violin has taken her to Russia with the Memorial University Chamber Orchestra, across Canada twice with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, to China for the World Expo 2010 with rock band, Hey Rosetta!, playing with Michael Bublé at the 2010 JUNO Awards, and playing Concertmaster under Maestro Kent Nagano in 2011.

She is joined by the all-female string quartet, Birds on a Wire, a young and energetic group committed to fusing classical and non-classical styles into a cohesive and unique sound. The afternoon's repertoire will include Mark O'Connor's Bluegrass and Old-time string quartets, Beethoven Sonata no. 10, and a variety of Canadian and European fiddle music

The Ancestry Project

Thursday, February 21st at 8:00 p.m. in the Studio

Bassist Zack Lober pays tribute to his grandfather, Montreal musician Hyman Herman with The Ancestry Project, a musical and visual performance looking back at his grandfather's musical career. This project explores his family's musical and personal history and incorporate it into a complete creative work, The Ancestry Project.
