RED draws the audience into the studio of Abstract-Expressionist painter Mark Rothko in 1958, when the celebrated American artist was at the peak of his fame. Rothko has been commissioned to create a series of large-scale murals for Manhattan's newly-conceived Seagram Building, one of the biggest commissions in the history of modern art. Challenged by his young assistant Ken, Rothko questions his importance as an artist and whether this project is an affront to his artistic integrity. Written by Academy-Award nominated screenwriter and playwright John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), RED examines the nature of creation while painting an enthralling and vivid portrait of one of the great artists of the twentieth century.

The Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre opens its 2012-13 season with the Yiddish staged reading of Di Komedyantn, Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys, starring DWYT favourites Sam Stein and Aron Gonshor. A classic comedy about two estranged vaudevillians, Fayvish and Anshl - who reunite after not speaking for a decade. Sprinkled with such lush verbiage, that the audience will be in Yiddish heaven!

Presented in Yiddish with English supertitles.

The art of Butoh and its founder Japanese choreographer Tatsumi Hijikata, is at the heart of dancer and choreographer Jocelyne Montpetit's masterful hybrid piece La danseuse malade. For over ten years, Montpetit has been pursuing her ideal of building upon Hijikata's 1983 study on memory and corporeal metamorphosis, The Ailing Dancer. In her personal quest to uncover this dancer, she gleans information from the greatest intellectuals and Hijikata dancers, asking the question, who was this "ailing dancer"? *Warning- onstage nudity.

For one night only at the Segal Centre, award-winning pianist and drummer Andre White is accompanied by a Quartet of some of Montreal's finest Jazz musicians to present a vibrant and eclectic array of Mr. White's most recent recordings.

The YM-YWHA and the Segal Centre are proud to partner to present The "Y" Shabbat at the Segal Centre, a series of welcoming and interactive Friday night Shabbat dinners for young Jewish adults at the Segal Centre and hosted by the YM-YWHA's programming staff and volunteers.

The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity for young Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s to gather together for a Friday night Oneg Shabbat, including a welcome cocktail, an interactive prayer service, and traditional Shabbat dinner.
A minimum contribution of 10$ is suggested.

Coup de Coeur

"One of our country's finest directors, Peter Hinton O.C. (for the Segal: A Night in November, A Doll House) makes his return to Canada's National Arts Centre's English Theatre to stage Thirsty by NAC Playwright in Residence, Dionne Brand, who adapted the work for the stage from her lyrical poem of the same name.  The play is drawn from an incident in 1978 where a Jamaican man was killed in his Toronto home by police.   The production features the NAC English Theatre company and a sound design by Segal favourite Troy Slocum.
