OLIVER JONES TRIO

Sunday, September 22 at 8:00 p.m.

Be part of an interactive concert experience with one of Canada's greatest Jazz pianists, Oliver Jones, when he returns to the Segal to inaugurate the 6th season of the Power Jazz Series.

Close friend to Oscar Peterson, Officer of the Order of Canada, winner of five Juno Awards, and grandmaster of hard swing, Oliver Jones is a Canadian musical institution and the definition of Montreal Jazz.

Accompanied by the other members of the acclaimed Oliver Jones Trio, drummer Jim Doxas and bassist Éric Lagacé, he will perform a unique two-part concert. Part one will be dedicated to songs from the greats of the American Songbook: Gershwin, Ellington and Mr. Jones' mentor Oscar Peterson. You will have the chance to request your favourite jazz tune and hear it performed by the Trio during part two of the show. This is a show you will not want to miss!

The Power Jazz Series is back for a sixth season of inspiring jazz in the intimacy of the Studio!

Check out this season's very cool line-up and see what our Director of Music Development, George Doxas, has to say about these upcoming acts:

Altsys Jazz Orchestra
A Tribute to John Coltrane's A Love Supreme
October 20th at 8:00 p.m.

"Altsys Jazz Orchestra, led by Jennifer Bell and Bill Mahar, were one of the first groups to perform in the Power Jazz Series back in 2009. They boast an incredible 13-person band that includes many staples of the Montreal jazz scene. It's been a longstanding dream of their's to pay tribute to Coltrane's monumental album. I am delighted they get the chance to live out their vision at the Segal."

Cameron Wallis Quartet
Calling Dexter
December 1 at 8:00 p.m

"Virtuoso saxophonist Cam Wallis is one of the city's most exciting young jazz artists. You may have seen him on stage accompanying such big names as Sophie Milman, Susie Arioli and Jean Leloup. Calling Dexter, is an authentic, hard-hitting jazz album that harkens back to music of the 50s and 60s, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins… and it's his first quartet album. It's jazz, period."

And in 2014, don't miss:
Brilliant pianist Julie Lamontagne,
Triplettes de Belleville composer Ben Charest, as part of Festival Montréal en lumière
• Illustrious American bassist and composer Steve Swallow with Montreal's own Doxas Brothers and Andre White for the Power Jazz closing concert.
